Ever wondered what your website will look like on other computers. Using 800 x 600 you can check that your site still looks good to the people still using the old 800 x 600 format - the minimum requirement these days for internet viewing.
Most computers are running at 1024 x 768 pixels ... and some are even running as high as 1600 x 1200. Don't get too tied up on what it looks like in YOUR screen - getting your site perfect for your screen may make it crowded or very sparse for your clients.
